CONNECTING THE ESPLANADE TO THE PUBLIC GARDEN
We are excited to announce the transformation of David Mugar Way.
New landscaping to the median separating the on/off ramps to Storrow Drive will create an inviting connection between the Esplanade and the Public Garden and improve the aesthetics of a long-neglected roadway.
Please join us in reviving this important gateway into the historic Back Bay and Beacon Hill.

The proposed design focuses on creating a natural landscape suitable for urban environments using tall ornamental grasses layered with native, drought-tolerant plantings for year-round color. The four existing concrete planters will be repositioned and planted with medium-size Amelanchier trees.
Low, tough ground cover will replace the exposed dirt worn bare by pedestrians crossing the intersection. The new plantings will also provide a natural habitat for pollinators and help capture carbon emissions from passenger vehicles and trucks.
The scope of work also includes reseeding and planting bushes at the base of the Arthur Fiedler Footbridge
